This exercise is designed to force you to evaluate the actions that you consider acceptable today and to evaluate how they will compound over 20 years. In the same way that we have looked at the powerful effect of compound interest on your money, so it is that negative aspects compound over time to cause you serious issues in the future. No one gets upset when they see one investment delivering 7.5% when they got 7% from their portfolio. But over twenty years on a £100,000 investment, this means you miss out nearly £38,000.

Similarly, if you put toxins into your body, they won’t have much affect each year, but over time they will build and build and at some point, you will suffer the consequences, which may include a stroke, heart attack or cancer. Of course, we cannot completely eliminate the likelihood of these conditions, but you can improve your odds with a healthy lifestyle.

This shift shouldn’t just be about reducing weight. You may not need to lose any weight at all. It should be about giving your body the best possible chance of supporting you into a long and healthy retirement. This is achieved by giving your body the right materials it needs to regenerate itself in the right way and by trying exercises that condition your body into the vehicle you need for the future.

Prior to UPW, people probably wouldn’t have described me as fat, but I was certainly above my fighting weight! I would typically suffer badly from eczema throughout the winter months, hay fever through the summer months, and would suffer from an average of two-three bugs a year of one form or another. I was not severely unhealthy, but certainly not perfect by a long shot. When I started writing my book, I was able to boast that since changing my lifestyle as a result of UPW, and subsequently tweaking it and adapting to suit my life, I had not only lost two stone, but I had not suffered from any ailment in over four years.

Ironically, at the point of writing, I am suffering from the first ailment in over four years, having picked up a cough on a flight to St. Lucia. It’s no longer true that I haven’t been ill once since adopting this lifestyle, but there are three things to take from this:

1)One illness in over four years is a massive improvement from two-three a year, and it is a rate I will gladly accept, assuming it continues.

2)Life is not a game of perfect, and a few extra rums in St. Lucia probably weakened my immune system enough to let the bug take hold. This minor illness has inspired me more than ever to stick to my healthy lifestyle.

3)Illness has still not cost me one day of work or play since I changed my lifestyle. Even with this cough, whilst I’ve been forced to work from home for three days and ease off the squash and cycling a bit, my body is fit enough to cope with the bug.

  1. Create energy
  2. De-acidify your blood
  3. Drink plenty of water
  4. Eliminate toxins
  5. Apply simple rules
  6. Exercise for you
